The Olmsted County Historical Society was founded in 1926. The purpose is to collect, preserve, and interpret the history of Olmsted County. This Historical Society contains over 1 million paper items in the Archives and Research Library collection. This is the largest collection outside of the Minnesota State Historical Society in St. Paul, MN. The Olmsted County Historical Society owns and operates: The Historic Mayowood Mansion, The William Dee Log Cabin - early pioneer 1862 home, The George Stoppel Farmstead - listed in the National Register, the 1885 one room Hadley Valley Schoolhouse, and the Museum Shops. Programs and special events are offered throughout the year. The facilities are available to rent for workshops, meetings, and social events. The picture above is a Mayo Clinic hospital room recreation using many historical items from the early Mayo Clinic days. Museum hours are: Tues - Sat. 9am-5pm, Closed Sunday & Monday.
